The 5500 module is a high–performance node controller that executes the algorithms necessary for network operation, including buffer management, collision detection and error reporting. In addition to the standard network interfaces (10 Base–T/2/AUI), the 5500 will accept a bifer–optic interface with the addition of a 12V supply.
